Professor Ilesanmi Banjo Oluwafemi
Dean, Faculty of Engineering
Professor Ilesanmi Banjo Oluwafemi is a Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the current Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. He joined the services of EKSU (then University of Ado-Ekiti) in 2002 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in October 2021.
He holds a B.Eng. (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Ado-Ekiti (2000), an M.Eng. in Communication Engineering from the University of Benin City (2005), and a Ph.D. in Electronic Communication Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa (2012).
A registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Professor Oluwafemi is a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and an associate member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). His research interests include electronic communication systems, MIMO-OFDM, space-time coding, digital signal processing, wireless communication, free-space optical communication, broadband power line communication, IoT, and applications of machine learning in communication systems.
Professor Oluwafemi has published over 70 scholarly works, including journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings in reputable international outlets. He has successfully supervised Master’s and Ph.D. candidates in Electronic Engineering, many of whom are making significant contributions in academia, industry, and research. His scholarship has also earned him fellowships, competitive research grants, and notable awards, including the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Wireless VITEA Conference (2011) and the Most Outstanding Lecturer Award by the EKSU Alumni Association (2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions).
Beyond research, he has contributed extensively to academic leadership and administration. He has served as Acting Head of both the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Department of Computer Engineering, Sub-Dean of the Faculty, and Chair of several key committees in the faculty and University. He has also acted as external examiner and assessor for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in leading universities across Nigeria and abroad.
As Dean, Professor Oluwafemi is dedicated to advancing engineering education and research, strengthening industry-academia collaborations, and nurturing the next generation of engineers to become innovators and problem-solvers for societal and global challenges.
